Current mood: lost

I don't think I'm supposed to be here...

Got myself all psyched up to go to the gym today. I’ve never made it there before. I get to the treadmill.

Suddenly I’m on the bridge of the Enterprise.

What the hell are all these freaking buttons for? Rather than mess around with them like I would do with most things, and seeing no simple way to make it act like what I think of as a treadmill, I elected to hold off until I could RTFM (which a notice on the machine kindly told me to do.

Can someone give me a few tips? I am so lost. What’s with the signup, too?

The signup's only there to make sure that if all the machines are full, that the people who've been waiting longest for them will get them before the people who just walked in. The treadmill doesn't generally have this problem, but the ellipticals do. I hope that's helpful.

With the treadmill, if you push start enough times, it'll just auto start, then you can adjust the height and speed as you wish, that's the easiest way through it, I can go with you some time if you want, and also your girlfriend SHOULD know an awful lot about the facilities...

it is sort of daunting, the amount of things you find on the controls for those things. good luck to you, I think lawson and jayce have already provided useful info. excellent work getting up the motivation to make the first step in the excercising land, even if you were overwhelmed by the buttons.

Heh, it took me a minute to get the Enterprise comparison, but it was worth it.
Anyway, fuck treadmills. Go swimming, or--MUCH better yet--play foursquare!

As a star trek fan, I would just like to say the Enterprise command consoles are far less complicated, and you could always ask the computer how to opperate them. Humph. XD

Not if you want to get through starfleet training without getting kicked out, Wesley Crusher was only allowed to be on the bridge because of his knowledge of those controls...though Picard hated children back then...but I digress. Night!

The sad thing is, I have a feeling I'd be more comfortable with the Enterprise control panel than the treadmill. Mind you, I'm not what you'd call a Star Trek fan, but the gym equipment scares me.
